Breyers Ice Cream

We are a very busy family!  What family isn't?  We have three kids.  They have homework.  They have sports.  They have church activities.  They have friend activities.  They have doctor appointments, dental appointments, hair appointments and countless other things!  My husband and I both work.  He's self-employed and life is busy and hectic.

It is very challenging to eat healthy all the time!  Sometimes we only have a few minutes before running out the door to the next thing!

Healthy eating - - takes time!  Time to buy the groceries.  This becomes more time consuming because buying fresh foods needs to be done more frequently.  Processed foods seems to have a never ending shelf life - but fresh real food goes bad!  It just does!!

It takes time to prepare the food and the list goes on.

My advice is to take it slow.  Figure out what works for your family and go with it.

The first thing we did was to cut out High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS).  After a while of not using products with HFCS we found that our tastes changed.  We no longer liked foods that have it in!!

Ice Cream is a great treat - but some of our favorites are loaded with HFCS and other nasty ingredients.  We found ice cream that we now low.  Yes its pricey - but it does go on sale and the other day with the sale and a coupon we got 2 1/2 gallon containers for $2.50.

Cutting out High Fructose Corn Syrup.....

After reading and hearing more and more about how High Fructose Corn Syrup is bad, our family decided to make an effort to cut it from our diet.

Wow!!  It that easier said than done!

What may surprise you is where you find this!!  It is in almost EVERYTHING!!!  Bread, dressings, snacks, soups!  In places you wouldn't think of!!

As we tried to cut this out of our diet - it became more about eating healthy unprocessed foods.  Foods that didn't have all the yucky stuff in them.  When you start reading labels you start wondering what is in my food and WHY????

It may start to freak you out when you start this journey and you start thinking you will not be able to find foods that are okay unless you make them from scratch!!

It is difficult - - but not IMPOSSIBLE!!!

One of the first things we discovered was Ketchup.  Of course you can make your own - but if you are a busy family like us - we found :

Ingredients

DISTILLED VINEGAR, NATURAL FLAVORING, ONION POWDER, SALT, SPICE, SUGAR, TOMATO CONCENTRATE FROM RED RIPE TOMATOES

Our kids really did not notice a difference with this when we first started using it.  They liked it the same as any other Ketchup.  After using this for a while, they do notice they don't like the sweet varieties as much!!!
